Background
•Clemons' writing career can be dated back to when he was 12 years old, working at a print shop as an apprentice. •He did this because he had too, his father had died and he had to care for himself, but he achieved his initial goal of being a steamboat pilot some ten years later when he turned 21. •This dream ended with the birth of the civil war, and patron travel dwindled to almost none in the year 1961.
Mid-Life
• Clemons' work as a volunteer for the confederates was cut short, and feeling lost, he decided to travel out west. It was 1861, and by 1862 he was still out of a job and broke even after attempting to mine for gold like all the other westward travelers. • He went to work for a newspaper and became very popular, and by 1865 had gotten a big story in the paper and was well known. He was 34.

•During his career Clemons published around 28 books and several short story collections. •Some of his most famous books (under his pen name, Mark Twain) include The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Story Summary
• In Huckleberry Finn, the story is based on Huck Finn and his friend Tom Sawyer, and their adventures. They end up finding a good deal of money. The story works on the prespective of a poor hardworking son, Huck, running into very good fortune. • In Tom Sawyer, Clemons focuses more on the background of Tom's life, how he grew up with his aunt, and was very mischievous. The story then goes on to tell how he and Huck Finn become friends and find a big fortune.
