- Hello, my name is Asher Cohen and I'm 14 years old, I have lived in Auschwitz for 6 months. I was separated from my parents and I sleep with children my age (Holocaust.com 2021).
- I used to live in this house in Warsaw. You see, I'm a Polish jew. When Germany conquered Warsaw on the 27th September 1939 (USHMM Encyclopedia 2021), my family was taken to a temporary labor camp.
- Apart from jews, communists, socialists, gypsies and other people from "Unwanted Races" were also taken to concentration camps (USHMM Holocaust Encyclopedia 2021).
- I was put on a train with 5,000 other 14 year olds. Together we shared rumors about what we had heard would happen once we arrived at the camp (Britannica 2021).
- I'm one of the lucky ones, because children that were 12 years old or younger were killed in gas chambers on arrival (Holocaust.com 2021). This was just one of the atrocities committed by the Nazis.
- Teenagers from 13 to 18 were selected for medical experiments and forced labor. Most died from exhaustion (USHMM Encyclopedia 2021).
- Now that I have explained how I got here, I'll tell you how I started my day.
- For breakfast I had my usual cup of bitter coffee. It barely appeased my stomach but it was better than nothing (Auschwitz.net 2021)
