I had barely finished drinking my coffee when I was forced to start building the new German Nationalist High Executive complex. German officers would soon use this complex as their sleeping quarters (TheHolocaustExplained.org 2021)
Unfortunately I was chosen for a medical experiment. The Nazis tricked us Jews into thinking that we were getting medical assistance. But we were actually test subjects for vaccines that treated diseases like Tuberculosis. For all we knew, we could have horrendous reactions to the vaccines. (USHMM Encyclopedia 2021),
For lunch we had 1 liter of soup that was made of rotten vegetables. No matter how much hunger I had, I was determined to not eat it because I had better plans for my soup (Auschwitz.net 2021)
Today I decided to exchange my liter of soup for a woolly hat to stay warm at night. The person I was trading with, decided to keep his name anonymous to prevent getting caught and potentially getting punished severely or gassed (TheHolocuastExplained.org 2021).
Prisoners in German concentration camps, had black markets where they exchanged goods and clothing. It was the only way to survive due to the harsh conditions imposed by the Nazis. People would steal and smuggle food or other items to trade (TheHolocuastExplained.org 2021).
During the afternoon, we had field work. We had to march 3 km to arrive at the fields. We were collecting fresh vegetables for the Nazi commanders. Any rotten vegetables would go straight to the kitchen and it would be part of tomorrow's lunch (TheHolocaustExplained.org 2021).
For dinner, us prisoners had a crust of bread with a small portion of margarine. In total we consumed 1300 calories in a day instead of the healthy ration of 2000 calories a day (Auschwitz.net 2021).
The working day ended at 6pm and we marched back down to the camp to have dinner (TheHolocaustExplained.org 2021).
