  • Mia's Journey with Sensation and Perception
  • By: Sophia Ramirez
  • Sensation Perception Storybook
  • Hi! My name is Mia. You will be coming along with me through my day! :)
  • Coco The Bulldog
  • As I am about to head out the door to go to school. My dog Coco wouldn't let me go without petting her. As I was petting her I felt sensations in my hand. Sensations are a physical feeling from something that comes into contact with your body. She has fur and it is very soft to feel.
  • Hi Coco!
  • Pet Me Please!
  • The NASTY skunk
  • As I am walking to school I smell something strange. I then turn to my left and see a skunk! EWW skunks are really stinky. I need to walk really fast. It smelt so bad my sensory receptors were going crazy. Sensory receptors help us learn about the environment around us. It is a nerve that receives information for us to interpret. My nose burned really bad after that.
  • hi
  • A SKUNK!
  • School Starts!
  • I finally make it to school. It takes a second for my eyes to adjust to the light. This must be because of the properties of light. Light is electromagnetic radiation. Some properties would be the speed of light is faster than sounds and light travels in a straight line.
  • So excited for school!
  • In English Class...
  • While I was in English class my teacher read us a book about animals. In the book they were talking about habituition in animals. Habituition is what happens when repeated stimulation produces waning responsiveness. One example from the book was when animals are shown repeated stimuli they eventually stop paying atenttion to it.
  • the animals all so happen to.....
  • In English Class (pt 2)...
  • After reading our story together. Our teacher let us have an independent reading time. While I was reading the main characer in my book went outside and described sensory adaptation. Which is when you constantly are exposed to an unchanging stimulus, you become less aware of it because our nervecells fire less frequently.
  • Science Class...
  • When Mr. Beckham called on me I was so excited to actaully share my knowledge with others. "Well Mr. Beckham the light enters the eye through the cornea, which bends light to help providefocus The light then passes through the pupil, a smalladjustable opening. Surrounding the pupil and controlling its size is theiris, a colored muscle that dilates or constricts in response to lightintensity. Each iris is so distinctive that an iris-scanning machine canconfirm your identity."
  • Who can tell me how the eye works?..... Mia?
  • Science class (pt. 2)
  • As Mr. Beckham continues teaching about the eye. We learn the Structure of the eye. He says if you were to open a human skull, exposing the brain, you would see a wrinkled organ, shaped somewhat like the meat of an oversized walnut. Without these wrinkles, a flattened cerebral cortex would require triple the area. I love learning about this it is super fascinating.
  • Recess Time!
  • Recess time is my favorite time of the day because of all the colors. Did you know that the way our eyes percive colors all dependss on how an object absorbs and reflects wavelengths. Even when looking up to the sun you will see after images which is when you still see the same image even after you looked away.
  • Recess Time (pt.2)
  • WOW! a firetruck
  • Time For Lunch...
  • Eating School Lunch
  • Bathroom Break...
  • As I am swinging on the swing. I hear a loud siren which startles me but I soon just realize it's a firetruck. It's crazy how our hearing system helps us process how we hear and understand sounds within the environment. It is made up of both peripheral structures . This helps us listen to things intently and guide behaviours.
  • As I am in line to get my food. My friend is having to use sign language to the lunch lady becasue she is deaf. There are many hearing impairments like sensorineural hearing loss, conductive hearing loss and mixed hearing loss. All of these happen to many people and you just have to figure out how to live with them and make the best out of it.
  • As Lisa and I sit down. I started eating my pizza. Once it hits my tastbuds I hum because it is so good. It's so amazing becasue we can taste sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and sovory. We taste with tastebuds without our tastebuds we wouldnt have the amazing flavors we have now. On our tasebuds are little hairs which sends a message to our brain telling us how it tastes.
