  • Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
  • Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath,
  • The poetic device used in this Sonnet is Contrast. In the sonnet the speaker compares two things that are totally different. He compares Love which is an emotion to actual things we need to survive. There is example throughout the sonnet that highlight this, but in line 5 and 6 do a real good job."Love cannot fill the thickened lung with breath, Nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone"The Speaker compares something that do not mean the same at all. Even though the speaker is trying to make point that one is important than the other. Love and objects need to survive are significantly different
  • The turn is in line 7. Before this element the speaker talks about how love is not important. The speaker talks about we need things like food, medicine, water and air to survive not the concept of love. But after the turn we find out the speaker is different. We find out that the speaker is fond of love. Even though love is not important to survive or needed but it is not bad. This turn tricks u into thinking that the speaker love is not worth time and effort we put into it. But the speaker does not mind.
  • I might be driven to sell your love for peace
  • It well may be. I do not think I would.
