Welcome to preschool! And wow, my Exceptional Learners class once again helps me with my special needs students. This time, especially with my ASD and communication disorder students.#160;
The Peace, Justice, and Reform class really gave me a deeper insight on education and equality. I found a renewed commitment to providing equitable opportunities for my special needs preschoolers, and to making myself be a better educator.#160;
Whoa the History of Education is really interesting! It's interesting to see the development of special education over times (beginning from the Roman empire!). I learned that our world requires new skills, so us educators need to revamp our curriculum, instruction, and expectations!
I think the Special Topics class is a great way to connect many themes discussed in previous classes to current situations, such as social justice issues in education today. It also begins having me reflect on my teaching and opinions on the education system.#160;
The integrated curriculum class based off of Montessori techniques gave me ideas of lessons to incorporate in my classroom. It taught me how to make the lessons overlap and connect in subjects, as well as give them meaning and capture the attention of my kids.#160; #160;
I really like the courses on Maria Montessori. Her history and philosophy influenced#160;special education tremendously, and I even use some of her techniques like more observation and preparing the environment to fit students' needs now in class!#160;
Always near the end of the year, my scheduled breakdown. I have been having a hard time at work concerning classroom staff management#160; and student behaviors. All the tools I gained about how to differentiate instruction and understand behaviors from my courses seem to be exhausted. I also wish there were courses on classroom management with adults. The pressure of the classroom have begun to impact my work, so I need to figure out a solution.#160;
Alright, it's the last quarter and my last term of the MEd program. I have reached out to my administration#160;to guide me in my classroom struggles and have prioritized my mental health now. I find the Culminating Experience course very in depth and reflective! It's helped me see how I'm actively applying what I've learned into my teaching. The Diverse Learners class has been very interesting in going even more in depth about special education, disabilities,#160; culturally responsive teaching, which are all very relevant to my class. I'm determined to give my best in my last courses, graduate, and continue to use my newfound knowledge in the classroom. I also hope to share#160;my learning with my colleagues and transform teaching in special education at my school!#160;
