I will then shelter him so he becomes a great king!
If your son is sheltered, he will be a king. If he figures out death, he will become a religious teacher
Everyone who's sick, dying, or old, hide! The prince is coming
Siddartha Gautama was born in the 500’s BCE in Nepal. He grew up as a wealthy Hindu prince in a palace and has all the luxuries he desired. His father was a king and he wanted Siddartha to be a king as well.
Siddartha’s father shielded him from everything unpleasant to prevent him from becoming a spiritual leader. A fortune teller predicted that Siddartha would become either king or a spiritual leader. His father did not want him to see suffering… no poor, sick, or sad in fear that he would seek out the truth…
When Siddhartha goes in his chariot, the guards ask all the people who are sick, old, dying, and in pain to When Siddhartha goes in his chariot, the guards ask When Siddartha goes in his chariot, Guards ask all the people who are sick, old, dying and in pain to leave. One day, some people slipped past the guards. Siddartha saw a man die, a sick man, an old man, and a holy man. The holy man was poor and had absolutely nothing but still seems content. Siddartha left the palace to find the same peace the holy man had.
Siddartha wanted to find the real truth of life, suffering, and death. One day he shaved his hair, got rid of his riches and wore robes. He then set out to find the truth. With Hindu Gurus, he learned new techniques of meditation. While he was with the ascetics, they practiced self denial. Starving themselves, and wearing itchy clothes for 6 years. After this, he realized this was not the way to find the truth.
On his way to find the truth, Siddartha meditated underneath a fig tree for 49 days, clearing his mind of all thoughts. In the process, he finally understood the cycle of life. He entered a new life without suffering and became enlightened. From there, he was then known as the Buddha. (Enlightened One)
He traveled across the world for 45 years. In the process, he shared his message and beliefs with other people. He gathered many followers and even trained people to be religious teachers. In the process, he constructed many buddhist temples He then died at the age of 80.
