  • Tier 1: It is the beginning of the school year so the class does not fully understand the routines and rules in different situations, the kids talk over the teacher because of this. Instead of the teacher continuing to let this happen, the teacher talks to the class as a whole, where he reminds students of his expectations for the class. Majority of the kids understood and had no trouble putting their focus to improving their behavior.
  • Tier 2: A few kids though struggled understanding these rules and were still distracted in class. The teacher pulls these students and has a small group discussion with them, letting them know the challenges that come with not paying attention in class.

  • Tier 3: Of those kids, majority learned the importance of paying attention in class. But this task was still challenging for this student. The teacher had to have a one-on-one intervention and pull him to the side to talk.
  • His actions started to reflect in his participation/grades so the teacher starts to give this kid extra support. This support starts to guide this kid to positive behaviors in the classroom.
  • This RTI process followed by the teacher allowed his classroom behavior to significantly improve and kids got the support they needed!
