  • At a crossroads, many may feel vulnerable, scared, lonely, frustrated, angry...Everyone needs to be seen and heard. Empathic communication is a way to let the person know you care enough to take the time to stop, listen, and try to understand. Empathic communication helps build trust, and with trust, one can then safely continue to tell their story.
  • Empathic Communication
  • Listen Actively :  Smile, Eye Contact (if culturally appropriate), Posture, Proximity (Space Between), Kinesics (Mirroring facial expressions)
  • Connect Genuinely & Warmly: Feel the person's story with all your senses; be present in the moment & mindful of breath, body language, tone. Validate, reflect, clarify, summarize.
  • Return: Having joined the person within, we must be aware and objective to guide ourselves and the other back out.  Side by side, within a partnership, move towards a holistic treatment plan based on person's needs and their story.
