- Stella has been in Palace Estates in Los Angeles for 10 years, passing for white. Brit Bennet writes, " The night one of the lost twins returned to Mallard, a notice was pinned to the front door of every house in the Palace Estates, calling for an emergency Homeowners Association meeting"(Bennett 145). This shows where Stella has been for so long.
- Where have they been/ where are they going?
- One key thing Stella says is how she feels about black people. Brit Bennett writes, "Because we don't play with n******"(Bennett 165). This shows that is how Stella really feels about black people or she's passing for white a little too good.
- What are some key things they say?
- Stella likes teaching and thought about becoming a teacher when she was a kid. That changed when her mom made her and Desiree drop out of school. She was given another opportunity to teach when she was an adult. Brit Bennett writes, " Twins are likely to be stillborn, identical twins more vulnerable than fraternal twins, yet here she was, teaching Introduction to Statistics at Santa Monica College"(Bennett 221). This helps Stella find something to do, since she likes numbers and teaching.
