  • In the first letter, he tells his sister (Margaret) of the preparations leading up to his departure and the desire burning in him to accomplish his goals. In the second letter, Walton describes his lack of friends. He feels that he's too sophisticated to console his shipmates about his dreams and desires. In the third letter, he tells his sister how he's set sail and is confident he will achieve his goal.
  • It's alive!!
  • By the fourth letter, Walton’s ship has been confined, by major blocks of ice. Upon being trapped, he witnesses a large man riding a sled guided by dogs appear in the distance. Soon to follow, they find another man stranded on a block of ice. They decide to take the man aboard the ship as he is in very weak conditions. Walton and the stranger become friends, and Walton is promised that the stranger will tell him his story in the morning.
  • After going off to school, Frankenstein becomes fascinated with the creation of life. He begins his studies in anatomy and death. “After days and nights of incredible labor and fatigue, I succeeded in discovering the cause of generation and life; nay, more, I became capable of bestowing animation on the lifeless matter” (Shelly, chapter 4). With his studies completed, he begins to assemble his creature. With hope, the creation brings new beginnings.
  • After several months of construction, Victor finishes his creature. Though when the creature awakes, it horrifies Frankenstein. “I saw the dull yellow eye of the monster open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated it's limbs…the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room” (Shelly, chapter 5).
  • Soon to follow, Victor becomes ill from the long months of work and the horrific sight he endured. Lucky enough, he runs into his dear friend Henry Clerval who nursed him back to health over a few months.
  • After Victor was relieved of his illness, Clerval presented him with a letter from his cousin Elizabeth. The letter informed Frankenstein that Justine, a girl who used to live with the Frankensteins, returned home after the passing of his mother. Soon to follow, Victor received another letter from his father stating that his younger brother William was assessed. Victor immediately returns home to Geneva upon hearing this news. He looks upon the spot his brother's body was discovered. That's when he notices the monster lurking. He blames the murder on the demand.
