- Mateo, who is 18 years old, and Rufus, who is 17 years old, both receive calls from Death Cast, which informs them that they have one day to live, they die within the next 24 hours.
- Climax
- Both Mateo and Rufus are seeking for a companion to share their final day with. They meet one other using the app Last Friend, which finds people to meet up on the final day. Rufus and Mateo decide to meet up.
- Falling Action
- They decide to start their final day together by checking items off their bucket lists, such as Mateo seeing his father who is in a coma and visiting Rufus' favourite restaurant for the last time. Mateo's best buddy Lidia then catches up with him and Rufus. As the hours pass, they get more at ease with one another and open up about their interests and past experiences.
- Resolution
- Aimee, Mateo, and Rufus wind themselves in a pub, where Mateo and Rufus share their first kiss.Then one of Rufus' closest pals arrives at the pub. Mateo and Rufus are spending their final moments of life with their closest friends while everyone is joyful. A gun-toting opponent of Rufus appears out of nowhere. Fortunately, Mateo and Rufus are able to flee in time, abandoning their companions in the process.
- Mateo helps the guys get home safely. They make a pact to stay in bed the entire night because they believe that if they simply stay there, they won't die. They snooze while still attached to one other's arms and legs. Unfortunately, Mateo breaches the pledge by waking up before Rufus. To make them tea, he walks to the kitchen, but as he switches on the burner, a fire breaks out.
- Rufus survives the fire but winds up in the hospital; Mateo perishes. When Rufus discovers that Matteo won't wake up again, he is devastated. After leaving the hospital, Rufus goes to see Mateo's father to tell him all that Mateo had only revealed to Rufus. Rufus then exits the house and is struck and killed by an automobile.
