- "lyddie looked up from the pot of oatmeal she had been churning looked to the door there was a bear don't nobody yell she said" pg 1-2
- It is because lyddie and charlie are fighting with what they are supposed to do with the calf. Lyddie says the should keep the calf money and Charles said they are bound to give it to their mother. Which makes it this conflict because both characters are fighting for what they think is right.
- Because lyddie is struggling with herself to keep calm therefore it is Character vs. self.
- Because lyddie is fighting a bear and trying to escape quietly it is character vs nature.
