  • Welcome aboard! I am Captain Whitfield. 
  • What is this strange man saying?
  • Ship Life
  • Could I... sleep on it?
  • Manjiro, would you like to come live with me once we get to New Bedford?
  • New Bedford
  • HAHAHA!
  • Hey! Stop making those faces and leave him alone!
  • Captain Whitefield tries to talk to and welcome aboard Manjiro and his friends,but they think they´re barbarians that cannot speak because they´re speaking English, but Manjiro and his friends only understands Japanese. 
  • Samurai Farm Boy
  • Manjiro goes about life on the ship, but sense they would be returning to land soon Captain Whitfield invites Manjiro to be his son figure and live with him in New Bedford.
  • School
  • Manjiro decides to go back to New Bedford with Captain Whitfield and as soon asthe board off the ship he really starts to notice he is different. As he is walking he notices a group of boys his age making faces at him as he is looking in the bakery window. An older man comes along and tells the boys to go away and to leave Manjiro alone.

  • Manjiro decides to take Duffy out, she spooks and Manjiro falls off. Duffy runs away and Terry finds Manjiro in a field.
  • Are you sleeping?
  • What! No, my horse, I was riding my horse!
  • Captain Whitfield talks with Manjiro about how he is too bright for the grade school, and Captain Whitfield had talked to the head master of the Bartlett School of Navigation so that Manjiro can go there.
  • Really! Thank you Captain!
  • John, you have finished grade school and it is time you go to a school for boys your age. I have talked to the head master at Bartlett School of Navigation and you can go!
  • Manjiro arives at Bartlett School of Navigation, and he then sees Tom, and a new boy, Job. Job had a coin tied to a piece of string. Manjiro follows it at first then he realizes and tells Job to use fishing line to make it even harder to see. 
  • Okay! Thanks!
  • Oh I see! It is tied to a string, if you want to make it even harder to see use fishing line!
