  • You should stay away from me, I feel like I'm getting sick, maybe the flu
  • Speaking of, I just got my flu vaccine, which should help me in this case! I'll explain the way it works

  • After I received the shot, which was injected with viral mRNA, and inactivated, or dead virus particles, my immune system was trained to defend itself by introducing antigens.

  • My body recognizes that the antigens are foreign, and begins to produce antibodies specific to those antigens. Then, memory B-cells and T-cells, which always stay in our bodies, are ready for future encounters.

  • I'm the first responder and alarm system. I detected the invading virus, and before it was able to multiply, I engulfed and digested it. Then I released cytokines to signal and recruit other immune cells to help defend the body.

  • My job next is to act as rapidly as possible, transforming into a plasma cell and start producing antibodies specific to the flu strain.Those antibodies will act as neutralizers, binding to the surface of the antigens, preventing the virus from entering and effecting healthy cells.

  • 3 weeks later...
  • So after all of that, there was minimal inflammation, the response was fast and localized, I had no physical/noticeable symptoms, and any bacteria was killed. Evidently, the type of immunity I experienced was specific immunity because it was a targeted immune response.

  • I'm essentially the coordinator here. I recognized the flu antigen on the surface of the macrophage. Now my job is to activate the B-cells to produce antibodies, and activate Cytotoxic T-cells to destory infected cells.
  • Then, I'll kill the infected disease. This will help stop the virus from replicating inside your body.
  • Hello! I'm the last piece of this puzzle, basically the clean-up crew. Once everyone else is finished, I will remove dead viruses, destroy infected cells, and restore normal tissue function.
