Storyboard Text
Hey Rose, do you know about the meiosis or sex cell division?
Okay! But for now, let me tell you about the meiosis.
Not all, but i have some knowledge about meiosis.
Okay, if you say so.
Meiosis has 2 divisions, 4 daughter cells, 23 chromosomes.
Yes, that's right.
Is that in gametes {sex cells} for sexual reproduction?
Meiosis is a nuclear division in which the diploid or somatic number of chromosomes is reduced in half.
In metaphase I, the tetrads attached to spindle fibers at their centromeres, line up at mid-call.
In prophase I, a process that is called synapsis that is fusing together of each pair of homologous chromosomes.
In anaphase I, each centromere moves toward its respective pole without duplicating.
There are now two cells, each with the same number of chromatids as the parent cell.
In telophase I, produces two cells, each of which has just one member of each homologous pair chromosomes that was present in the original cell.
Prophase II begins. In the second meiotic division, homologous chromatids do not duplicate but merely separate.
The chromatids line up at mid-cell in metaphase II. The centrioles and asters are at the poles. A spindle has formed. Am I right?
Did you get it, Rose?
Yes, you're right.
Yes.
And telophase II has been completed. There are four cells, each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell.
The now separated chromatids approach their respective poles in anaphase II. The cell membrane starts to constrict.
