Storyboard Text

  • I was born on April 10, 1930, in an abandoned town located in New Mexico. I was raised by my mother alongside my two bothers. Growing up I had always faced racism because of my skin color and some altercations have been violent.
  • I was a teacher before I became an activist after I saw how my students, who were children of farm workers, were starving themselves because they had no money. I helped create the Stockton Chapter of the Community Service Organization so that my Hispanic people will have economic improvement.
  • I created the Agricultural Workers Association for non-U.S. immigrants so that they could have driving tests and ballots in Spanish.
  • I (Ceasar#160;Chavez) believe that with your experience in creating an association, the National Farm Workers Association (which will help farmworker have better working conditions) that we have created together will be of great success.
  • Ceasar#160;(Chavez) and I decided#160;to combine the#160;Agricultural#160;Workers Association and the#160;National Farm Workers#160;Association to create#160;the United Farm Workers. It is a place where people like you, farmworkers and family of farmworkers, can come for help and fight for a better life.#160;
  • In 1999, I resigned at Vice President of UFW. My work has improved the lives of women and immigrants because they were given less attention because of our race and gender.#160; The UFW association still continues after my retirement, making change every day.#160;
  • Retirement Party
  • I Barak Obama, President of the United States give you this medal. The medal of Freedom for your great contribution towards the United States that has changed the lives of many farmworkers and immigrants.#160;
