Acts 3 and 4 Summaries
Storyboard Text
- Proctor and Mary Warren come to the court house to tell everyone that the girls are lying about there being witches.
- Mary Warren comes and confesses, telling everyone that it was all a joke. But then the girls start to act like she was possessing them and Mary doesn't want to hang, so she acts with them to save herself.
- Danforth doesn't believe them at first. But as time goes on and more of the evidence starts to make sense, he begins to believe.
- Abigail begins to act like she is being possessed to keep the rouse up. This also takes the blame off of her and this shifts Danforth's thinking.
- Parris sides with Danforth because he never liked Proctor.
- Hale sides with Proctor because he thinks this whole witch thing is stupid.
- Proctor tells everyone about his affair with Abagial to help show everyone how it's all a lie but it backfires. So to save himself, Proctor confesses to working with the devil and gets sent to jail.
- Danforth agrees to hear Elizabeth out, but when she ends up lying to save Proctor, Danforth no longer believes that what Proctor was saying is true. So he sentences him to jail.
- Mary Warren decides to continue the lie of being possesed by the wtiches so she can save herself.
- When Proctor tells everyone about his affair, Elizabeth is called in to say if this is true. Elizabeth lies to save Proctor's reputation and he ends up parishing because of it.
- Parris still sides with Danforth.
- Hale tries his hardest to protect Proctor and Elizabeth.
- Proctor is due to hang in the morning. So to try and stay alive with Elizabeth, he confesses so he won't hang. But when he is forced to sign a contract, he decides against it. He does not want his name sullied for his children. So Proctoer hangs.
- Parris is scared of rebillion in Salem due to the hangings. He shares his fears with Danforth. He also shares that Abigail and Mary Warren have run away together. This is bad because Abigail was the main accuser and if they run....that shows they are hdiding something.
- Elizabeth apologzies to Proctor and decides to not try and sway his decsision in what he wants to do.
- Hale is disappointed because he came to Salem to help people through Christ and all his work ended in bloodshed. He still tries to save Proctor by begging Elizabeth to make him change his mind but it doesn't work.
- Danforth is tired of hearing of rebellion because if it were true that means the witch trials were a farse, which also shows he is not good at his job. So he is eager for Proctoer to confess because that still means he's good at what he does and that he was never wrong with past hangings.
