Joseph had 11 brothers, and he was his Dad's favourite. To prove this, his father gave him a colourful coat.
This made his brothers furious, so they threw him in a pit and told their father he was dead.
There were some travellers walking by, so Joseph's brothers decided to be a bit nicer and sold him to them. After all, he was their brother.
He soon started working for an important man named Potipher. Potipher really like Joseph, and put him in charge of the whole house, until he was blamed for something he didn't do and sent to jail.
Pharaoh had a dream, and nobody knew what it meant, but by then, the man Joseph helped in prison was out and working for Pharaoh. He told Pharaoh about his skills.
I had a dream...
It means that...
In jail, Joseph was granted the gift to decipher the meaning of other's dreams. The guard also really liked Joseph, and put him in charge of all the other prisoners.
When Joseph figured out Pharaoh's dream, he warned him about a famine coming, and suggested that he put someone in charge of storing food. That someone ended up being Joseph.
Like everyone else in the land, Joseph's brothers had to come to him in order to receive food during the famine. Though they didn't recognise him, he knew who they where, and after sobbing for a few minutes, he said "I'm Joseph, I'm the one you sold. God took care of me." And he forgave them.
