Storyboard Text

  • Do, Ray, Me, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do
  • Now son, put your lips together and blow into the mouthpiece to make a sound.
  • Okay class, I want you to think about which instrument you wish to continue playing
  • Trombone
  • Flute
  • Guitar
  • Thanks! You're a good player too! Sure I think that would be cool.
  • TROMBONE SECTION
  • Hey! You're a great player, want to come over and practice for the concert?
  • The Son of a Musician
  • Dude, we sound awesome!
  • We are going to be the best ones at the concert!
  • Our story starts with a little boy sitting on his bed listening to his dad practice songs, scales, and excerpts on his trumpet.
  • Boys that was excellent! On Saturday night, you both will come watch myself play in a live show!
  • Sometimes, his Dad would teach him a few things about playing the trumpet. The boy enjoyed learning how to play the trumpet.
  • I know! That was so awesome. I think we can start by thinking about playing in marching band in high school, just like he did
  • In fourth grade, the boy took a music class, where he learned to play other instruments.
  • How can I walk and play at the same time?!
  • WOW! This is hard!
  • DUDE, I can't believe we get to be in the same band your dad was in!
  • With the help from his dad and his music teacher, the boy began to learn how to play the trombone. It was in this class that he met his best friend, a fellow trombone player.
  • Over the next few weeks, the more they practiced, the stronger their friendship became. The boys went from practicing simple chromatic scales to perfecting their parts for the concert.
  • The concert went well for the boy and his friend. The boy's father was proud of the son that the boy and his friend were invited to go see the boy's father play in the live concert "Jesus Christ Superstar."
  • All our hard work has payed off! Who would have thought band could be this much fun!?
  • We did it! We got second!
  • After seeing the boy's father in a live concert, they were both thinking about continuing to play music together.
  • Good Night!
  • Section Leader Auditions
  • Dude, your Dad was incredible! I want to be a great player like him one day!
  • Fast foward a few years, to the first day of marching band and high school!
  • I know!! Its hard work, but I can't wait until we play during half-time!
  • Son, you are such a talented player. It is only natural that you wish to go back playing loud and free. Give concert band a try
  • Eventually the boy became section leader, and his friend became second chair. They had become the two best trombone leaders and lead their section through every half time performance.
  • Give it up for your very own Mandeville High Marching Band!
  • After continuing to lead his section, the boy continued to play in the marching band in high school. The band had qualified for state competitions.
  • And now on the field, the Mandeville High Skippers!! Playing the James Bond theme
  • Shortly after their performance, the band anxiously awaited to hear if they placed in the top three.
  • And in second place, the Mandeville High Skippers!
  • As football season came to an end, so did marching band. The boy and his friend transitioned into concert band. This time they had to audition for section leader.
  • Wow, you're just as good as you were in marching band. You will be section leader for concert band
  • Dad, I love playing, but I would much rather be practing the next routine for halftime. Did you ever prefer one over the other?
  • As section leader the boy received many solo opportunities. He would practice his solos every day.
  • The boy continued to play trombone for the next 3 years in both marching and concert band. The time had come for the boy's last half-time performance.
  • He is being escorted by his father tonight. He has played as section leader all 4 years. He will be attending Youngstown State University
  • YSU MARCHING BAND PRACTICE
  • DEAN of Creative arts and Communication
  • Congrats on your new job Dad!
  • You played well son, I am proud of you
  • Dad, this was so great!!
  • Ladies and gentlemen, give a round of applause for your Vespers Christmas Quintet!
  • As summer winded down to end and his first semester of college was about to begin, the boy found himself moving to Ohio and playing for a spot on the YSU Marching Band.
  • The boy's father also continued to grow with his music the boy's father became the Dean of Bliss Hall.
  • Thank you son, congrats on the spot in the marching band, I am looking forward to watching you perform
  • The time came for the boy's first halftime performance as a member of the YSU Marching Band.
  • The boy only played in the YSU Marching Band for the next 2 years. He would still play the trombone in conerts with his father.
  • After graduating college, the boy occasionally plays the trombone. Instead, he frequently listens to classic rock on vinyl. He has developed a good collection of vinyls. His father has become the Vice President at one of the Lake Eerie College campuses.
