  • In 1763 some people would have predicted thin in only 13 years later in 7776 a resolution would be unfolding. in the 1760, something was wrong, Britain was exercising direct influence over colonial life.

  • The Americans thought that the British were just watching over them and that they should not have to pay for that. they also had no representation in the British parliament.

  • The stamp act was the first direct tax on the colonies. every time the colonists used paper it had to be approved and documented so that they could prove that they payed the tax.

  • The Boston Massacre was a confrontation on March 5, 1770, in which British soldiers shot and killed several people while being harassed by a mob in Boston.
  • Colonists such as Patrick Henry, and James Otis started there protest and participated in a meeting called the stamp act congress in the colonies to decide what to do. "No taxation without representation" they demanded an then the stamp act congress convened in New York in October 1765.

  • The colonists put there words into action and refused to buy British goods and the sons and daughters of liberty didn't hesitate to torment tax collectors or publish the names of those who didn't refuse to buy the goods. soon the pressure of England from struggling British merchants was too great to bear the stamp act was repealed the following year.
