- Why are all those people ignoring that girl? I hope she gets what she needs.
- I'll ask Mum when I get home. Maybe I can search it up!
- It says here that the girl I saw this afternoon was homeless.
- I'll ask Mum tonight at dinner.
- It also says that you should give food to the homeless so that they don't have to walk anywhere or spend the money on the wrong things.
- Mum, what am I supposed to do if a homeless person asks for money?
- I saw a girl today that was asking people for money and food. She looked really dirty.
- Ok!
- Ok. I'll make her some food and you can give it to her tomorrow on your way home.
- Well, you can give them food, like a meal. That helps. Why?
- Emeline is walking home from school and she comes across a girl who is begging and asking people for money and food. She wonders why the people are ignoring the girl instead of helping her. Emeline keeps going and thinks about asking her Mum about the girl. She also thinks she will search it up when she gets home.
- I'm going to school now, Mum! I've got both lunches for her and I. I hope she likes it!
- Thanks, Mum.
- This is a good thing you've done. I'm proud of you. Giving food to the poor is the best way to help them.
- Emeline goes home and searches up the girl she saw on the way home from school. She finds out that the girl is homeless and asks for money and food so she can eat and buy the things she needs. She also reads that if you are going to give something to the poor, give them food so that they don't have to walk anywhere to eat or don't spend the money on the wrong things.

- Did you make this for me? Thank you!
- Yeah, I thought you might want some lunch, so I asked my Mum to make extra.
- I love your name! I'm Emeline.
- Emeline goes to dinner and asks her Mum about the girl she saw. Her Mum says that you could give something like food to the homeless girl. That is the second response she has gotten to give food to the poor. Her Mum says that she will make up some food for the girl so that Emeline can take the food to the girl.
- This feeling.. feels good. It feels warm and bubbly. I feel better knowing that I didn't say anything at school, it makes me feel good because I'm helping someone for them, not me.
- Emeline, thank you. This makes me so happy. It feels good talking to you. Can we be friends?

- Emeline gets ready to go to school. Her Mum has made both her and the girl's lunches so that they can both have food. Her Mum reminds her that giving her food is the best way to give to the poor and needy. She also says that it would be good for Emeline to donate not only some food, but her time to a charity. Emeline thinks it is a good idea.
- Well, I think it would be good for you to donate your time to a charity.
- After school, Emeline goes to the street where she saw the girl and the girl is still there asking for money and food. She goes up to the girl when no one is there so she doesn't embarrass the girl. She then gives her the lunch her Mum made. The girl is very happy and talks a bit to Emeline. Emeline finds that she likes this feeling of happiness at someone else, and thinks she will volunteer.
- Nobody really helps me anymore, thank you so much, Emeline!
- No problem! It didn't feel right anyway, walking past you.
- They talk for a while and they soon become friends. Emeline learns that the girl's name is Grace. She notices that a good feeling is filling her up, it feels warm and bubbly; a good feeling. She thinks about it for a bit and realises that this outcome is better than having announced it at school that day. She thinks again about volunteering, and knows that this is what she wants to do, because she likes helping people like Grace.
- Mum said that there was a place that I could volunteer at that helps people like Grace every day. I'm definitely going to volunteer there, if it means that I get to help people like Grace.
