- Attitude
- His mother is singing to him in the afternoon. As she's singing it's making him feel nostalgic. He sees himself sitting on his mothers lap as she plays the piano and sings. He tries not to but he ends uplonging for the past. It's a reminder for hime of the cold Sunday nights where his mother played and sang for him. It's useless for him to spend time thinking about it. The passion for the piano is what sparked his nostalgia. He cries thinking about how the time has passed.
- Shifts
- Lawrence uses imagery in the beginning of the poem when describing his memories of his mother singing and playing the piano to him which creates a warm hearted energy that makes the audience feel what he is writing about.
- Title/Theme
- Lawrence is talking about his childhood memories. His attitude towards them is sentimental.
- In the beginning of the poem the author is nostalgic, but as the poem goes on he is sorrowful for his childhood. The shift changes the main idea of the poem, it goes from being about happy the past to someone strongly yearning for the past and unhappy with their current life.
- The title could be Memories through the Piano Keys. This title explores the memories the author had while his mom sings along to the piano. The theme is to enjoy your childhood and life is precious so appreciate each moment for what it truly is so you don’t look back at the past with sorrow.
