  • Cruelties Experienced By Children Working In 21st Century China.
  • Brice Gillespie 12-16
  • Get back to work you slackers. I saved you off the streets, SO YOU MAKE ME MONEY!!
  • We are so tired. We need a break, please let us have some freedom.
  • Children working in China. China is one of the most developed countries in the world, and is constantly making advances. With each new achievement, the work demand increases because companies and people want to make more money. The children that live in China are vulnerable, as in any other country. Adults take advantage of this vulnerability to persuade and kidnap kids to make them become their personal/private work force, even though child labor is illegal in China.
  • “the people’s drive for materialistic gains and certain aspects of Chinese culture are a cause for concern as these factors are deepening social stratification and widening gender gaps, which inevitably affect the future of its children.” This is a quote from Child Labour and Child Kidnapping Sports Philosophy, April 12 2016. It proves that people are determined to gain and satisfy their greed, and they are using children to do this, causing the future of our generation to crumble.
  • Many kids are determined to get an education in the modern world, understandably so, because the only way to make a living in a well-developed country like China you need a good education. When children are working all day with little to no sleep it can affect their minds, and they wont be learning anything.
  • "Another factor that contributes to child poverty is the situation of migrant workers. Hundreds of millions of them leave the countryside every year to find work in the city and often have to leave their children behind. Many of them now also leave their rural homes straight after school and engage in strenuous labour (assembly line, construction sector) that will scar their body for life because of their young age, not to mention work-related hazards (lack of proper protection, excessive working hours). Within only a few years, many of these kids start suffering from conditions that usually affect people over 60-70 years old.” States, Child Labour in China, Factories & Child Trafficking September 25, 2015 By Poverties
  • Many families in the suburbs of China can't afford a lot of what they want and can barely afford what they need.
  • I whish we had more money.
  • I wish I never took this job.
  • Kids that work in factories have a greater chance of injuring themselves and obtaining illnesses that primarily the elderly would be expected to have.
  • “Authorities in southern China’s Guangdong Province, near Hong Kong, said they had made several arrests and had already 'rescued' more than 100 children from factories in the city of Dongguan, one of the country’s largest manufacturing centers for electronics and consumer goods sold around the world. The officials said they were investigating reports that hundreds of other rural children had been lured or forced into captive, almost slavelike conditions for minimal pay.” States, China Says Abusive Child Labor Ring Is Exposed By David Barboza New York Times May 1, 2008
  • This quote proves that child labor is a problem in China and that there are corruptions in the way things work in the manufacturing industry. Also, the children were found working in almost slavelike conditions, which means the work and the environment were both mentally and physically draining.
  • "The children, mostly between the ages of 13 and 15, were often tricked or kidnapped by employment agencies in an impoverished part of western Sichuan Province called Liangshan and then sent to factory towns in Guangdong, where they were sometimes forced to work 300 hours a month, according to government officials and accounts from the state-owned media. The legal working age in China is 16." States, China Says Abusive Child Labor Ring Is Exposed By David Barboza New York Times May 1, 2008
  • This citation is proof that the child labor that has been occurring is illegal. Also, young children are being taken advantage of and forced to work for the materialistic gains of their employers. Many of these children just wanted money for their families.
  • “The child labor laws in China forbid employers in the country from employing people considered to be minors. According to the children laws which have been passed in China, minors are generally considered to be children under the age of 16 years. According to reports which have been issued on the success, or lack thereof, involved in the implementation of children laws in China, Chinese child labor laws have been regularly, even systematically flouted by companies or even entire industries. In particular, the southern and coastal areas for the implementation of children laws have been noted for regular violations. Child labor laws are believed to have been violated most commonly in the labor category of 'light mechanical work,' due to the preference for the superior vision possessed by child employees. Moreover, the effect of Chinese labor laws is believed to have been cancelled out by the pressure imposed by economic necessity.”
  • This piece of evidence from International Laws, sums up China's complete policy on child labor.
  • Based off my research I can determine that child labor is an issue in China's work districts. Also, if child labor does not cease to exist then an entire generation of children transitioning into adulthood aren't going to have the skills they need to make a living. I think that if the work force can be stabilized by employing more qualified adults so that the need for children to work, and the thirst for material gains will decrease. I also think that with every new advancement in technology the world is changing and becoming a bit more stressful, which is why I think that the use of that technology can be used in the place of children. It is understandable that people are afraid of robots taking their jobs but it is certainly a better option than using children. If that is not a viable option it is possible that police become more involved in the situation given the fact that child labor is illegal. The police could crack down on all the individuals forcing children into labor and influence the rest of the individuals to fairly employ and pay adult workers. Overall, the solution to child labor doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is that child labor is abolished. It needs to be abolished especially in well-developed countries because they have the assets to do so, and it is where a child's education matters the most.
