Storyboard Description
Lance was a student in a fifth-grade class. He struggled with reading and writing due to his dyslexia. One day, his teacher announced that students must create a presentation about their favorite book. Lance felt anxious, fearing he wouldn’t be able to keep up with his classmates.
However, determined to succeed, Lance’s teacher introduced three strategies from "The Dyslexic Advantage" to help him.
The first was Collaborative Learning. Lance teamed up with a classmate who was also passionate about the book. They shared ideas and helped each other with their presentations. This collaboration not only boosted Lance’s confidence but also allowed him to see different perspectives on the story.
The second was Project-Based Learning. Instead of writing a traditional report, Lance was encouraged to create a visual presentation. He decided to illustrate his favorite book, using drawings to represent key scenes. This hands-on approach allowed him to express his understanding without being bogged down by the writing.
Lastly, was Narrative Reasoning. Lance’s teacher and his partner helped him frame the story as a narrative. They worked together to outline the main events and characters, which made it easier for him to remember the details. By turning the book into a story he could visualize, Lance felt more connected to his book and the content.
The day of the presentations arrived, and Lance was nervous but excited. As he stood in front of his classmates, he shared his illustrated scenes and the story behind them. His creativity shone through, and his classmates were captivated by his unique take on the book. After the presentation, Lance received praise from his teacher and his classmates. They appreciated his artistic approach and storytelling skills, and Lance felt a sense of accomplishment he had never experienced before.
Lance realized that his dyslexia didn’t hold him back; it actually gave him a different way to shine. With the strategies he learned, he felt empowered to tackle future assignments with confidence, knowing he could leverage his strengths in creativity and collaboration.
