- Instead, this is under civil legislation. Under section 35A(1) of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) it is an offence to cause a dog to inflict grievous bodily harm on another person.

- When a bite is reported, animal control will check that the vaccines, including rabies, are up to date for the dog. Animal control will open a file on the incident that will provide everything that they find out during an investigation, especially if medical attention is required for the bite.
