- Odysseus arrives on Cyclops island
- Odysseus and his 12 best men enter the cave
- Polyphemus comes back and notices Odysseus and his crew
- " 'As we rowed on, and nearer to the mainland, at one end of the bay, we saw a cavern yawning above the water, screened with laurel, and many rams and goats about the place inside a sheepfold---made from slabs of stone earthfast between tall chunks of pine and rugged towering oak trees' " (9.80-86).
- Polyphemus eats Odysseus's men
- " 'we climbed, then, briskly to the cave. But cyclops was gone afield, to pasture his fat sheep, so we looked round at everything outside...' " (9.115-118).
- Polyphemus drowses off to sleep from the wine Odysseus gave him
- “ 'In the glare he saw us. ‘Strangers,’ he said, ‘who are you? And where from?’...' ” (9.155-156).
