- I wonder where Halloween actually came from!?
- Here, let me tell you all about the origin of Halloween!
- ROME CHURCH
- Saint Odilo added a celebration to November 2nd called All Souls Day that spread from France to the rest of Europe. It was a day of prayer for all the souls for all the faithful departed.
- Halloween actually falls on October 31st because of the solemnity of All Saints. It was moved it to November 1st and commanded to be celebrated throughout the entire church and it then spread to Ireland. The day before All Saints was Halloween.
- IRISH / IRELAND
- Irish Catholic Peasants worried about the unfortunate souls in Hell and if they were let out, they may be so unhappy to possibly cause trouble. It then became usual to bang pots and pans on All Hallows Eve, just to know they were not forgotten.
- FRANCE
- During the 14th and 15th centuries, dressing up came about. Artistic representations were came up with to remind everyone of their mortality. The French dressed up on All Souls Day not Halloween because it was the Irish who had Halloween and they did not dress up.

- ENGLISH - TRICK OR TREAT
- During the Penal Period in England, Catholics had no legal rights.Guy Fawkes was captured and arrested because of a plan to blow up King James I.On November 5th, Guy Fawkes Day became a celebration in England. People would put on masks and visit local Catholics at night and demanded “treats” for the celebration. This was Trick or Treat!
- AMERICAN COLONIES
- By the American Revolution, King James and Guy Fawkes had been forgotten. Trick or Treat was too much fun and moved to October 31st. Trick or Treat was not limited to only Catholics. Halloween had become official in the United States in the 1800's.
