Hi, my name is Sloan Freeman. I am a criminal lawyer, and I'm about to show you a typical working day for me.
Let's get straight to the point, I'm a busy woman. I'm 32, went to Yale Law School, had an internship with the DA of Washington DC, and now I'm working for the DA in Boston.
Working in Boston means I'm extremely busy, since we have almost 700,000 people living here. Let me show you the top three things I do every day.
If I don't start my day off in court, the first thing I do is go and talk to my coworkers. We discuss upcoming cases, strategic plans, and give advice. This helps everyone because we can bounce ideas off each other.
The second thing I do is go back to my office and review my cases I am currently working on. I will prepare briefs, make phone calls to other lawyers, check my email, and check to see if the DA has anything specific for me to do.
Lunch break, lawyers have to eat too.
One of the activities I do that puts me at risk is visit clients in jail. Usually I don't have to worry about safety, but you always have to be alert because you never know.
One last thing that I do at least daily is hit our library. I do this because it helps me learn more about cases and gives me ideas and refreshers. I study and read about cases that are similar to the ones I have at the moment.
Usually my days are very diverse, but I wanted to give you three constant things I do every day as a criminal lawyer. The working day is over for me now!
