- "The others did not suspect any mischief so they followed her into the house, but I staid where I was, for I thought there might be some treachery. From that moment I saw them no more, for not one of them ever came out, though I sat a long time watching for them."
- Eurylochus watches from outside to see Circe turn the men into pigs. After witnessing it, he runs back to the ship to tell Odysseus that they need to leave before they get turned into pigs. Odysseus refuses to leave his friends behind and decides to travel into the woods to save them
- I must go save them.
- "We went."
- Odysseus makes it to Circe's home, where he is offered the same wine that his men once were. He takes a sip of the wine because he has a protection spell from the gods that makes the potion not work on him. After that, when Circe tries to use her wand to change him into a pig, he attacks her.
- "be off to the pigstye, and make your lair with the rest of them."
- Your spell doesn't work on me. Give me back my friends.
- After Odysseus threatens Circe with the sword. She tells him about a prophecy of the "great contender" Odysseus becoming allies with her. Odysseus agrees to do what Circe asks. Later she frees his men and turns them back into humans. Odysseus ends up staying with Circe for over a year.
- surely you can be none other than the bold hero Ulysses, who Mercury always said would come here some day with his ship while on his way home from Troy; so be it then; sheathe your sword and let us go to bed, that we may make friends and learn to trust each other.'
