- Act 1 Scene3(Anne fling open the door of Peters room, making a dramatic entrence. She is dressed in Peters cloths. Peter looks at her in fury. the others are amused)
- All right, Mrs Quack-Quack!
- Good evening everyone. Forgive me if I dont stay. (She jumps up in a chair.) I have a friend waiting for me there. My friend Tom. Tom cat. Some people say that we look alike. But Tom, has the most beautiful whiskers, and I have only little fuzz. I am hoping... in time...
- Quak, quack,quack, and from now on stay out of my room
- With all the boys in the world... Why I had to get locked up with one like you!...
- Act 2 Scene2(For a second Anne stands looking up at Peter, longing for him to kiss her. As he makes no move she turns away. Then suddenly Peter grabs her awkwardly in his arms, kissing her on the cheek)
- Well...You'll see...
- Did you change you're mind, the way I changed my mind about you?
- (As she is about to open her bedroom door, she catches sight of Mrs Van Daan. She goes quickly to her, taking her face in her hands and kissing her first on one cheek and then on the other. Then she hurries off into her room. Mrs Van Daan looks after her, and then looks over at Peter's room. Her suspicions are confirmed.)
- (She knows.)Ah hah!
- Act 2 Scene 3
- We've all done things that we're ashamed of.
- Look at me, the way I've treated Mother... So mean and horrid to her.
- (Anne runs to her mother, putting her arms around her.)
- Not like me. No one is as bad as me!
- Oh, Mother, I was awful.
