  • You know, I've always believed that our personalities are a mix of our parent's personalities..
  • Well... I don't think so, I believe your personality develops as you grow. Why do you think so Darwin?
  • ERIK ERIKSON
  • CHARLES DARWIN

  • When we look at natural selection, it operates by favouring certain traits that can help an individual adapt to its environment. For example, someone may be more cautious and less impulsive which helps them avoid dangerous situations. Another person may make risk-taking decisions which can help them acquire new skills and explore.
  • Ja, I understand where you are coming from Darwin, but this isn't just about biology.
  • Personality develops through the different Stages of Development, and like you mentioned about acquiring new skills, how we solve challenges at each stage can effect our entire lives.

  • Ja! A baby may be born with certain traits, but as they grow they face critical challenges like building a sense of identity as a teenager. Teens go through many changes and may experience an "identity crisis".

  • So what you two are saying is that personality is a mix of nature and nurture? That is fascinating!
  • Ja Darwin, it is truly amazing how we can use anthropology, psychology, and sociology in our daily lives!

  • Personality is not just about what's inside of you, but how others may view you. The more we engage with others, the more we can understand ourselves better.
  • I agree Erikson! Personality can be learnt through social interactions as well. See, we can't really form our identities if we are isolated from everyone.
  • You probably remember getting that weird haircut back in high school because everyone else had it thinking it was cool and you wanted to make sure you would fit in with your peers. HAH!
