- He was in a dumpster for a long time, and one day a dog named Lucy found him and took him to her owner, who was a hobo named Bull. Bull really liked Edward and used to tell him lots of stories and sang to him. They also traveled together. One time they were sleeping on a freight train when a conductor came and got angry because they were riding without paying. He kicked Edward off the train.
- A boy named Bryce found Edward and took him to Memphis. He made money by making Edward dance like a puppet on the street. Later, Bryce went to a diner to eat. Bryce did not have enough money, so the owner got angry and smashed Edward's head on the table. Edward broke into 21 pieces. Bryce had to take Edward to a doll store to mend him.
- Bryce did not have enough money to pay for it, so he left Edward at the store. The owner mended Edward and put him for sale. No one bought him for a few years. Then one day a girl named Maggie and her mom came. The girl really wanted Edward. Edward saw that the mom had his pocket watch, and now he knew that the mom was Abilene. Abilene also recognized Edward.
