  • This new school was daunting to Tilly. It was tall and loomed over her. There wasn't a lot of color.

  • The lessons were hard for her. All the other children in her class seemed to already know everything. They were answering all of the teachers questions.

  • She felt left out. She saw other kids getting better grades than she did, and they seemed to not notice her. Tilly felt small in her big new school.

  • At home, Tilly told her mom about her day, how it didn't go so good. "It'll get better I'm sure. You just have to study hard and find what you're good at."

  • Papers, and how to write them
  • When Tilly came back to school after a long weekend, a new lesson got introduced to the children. "Papers and how to write them". Her teacher said that they would have to do a lot of reading, which Tilly already loved to do.

  • Tilly's teacher taught the students about research papers. They needed to find one historical person and write about him or her. She also taught them about the rules of writing papers and citations.

  • Tilly decided to write about Amelia Earhart and her flight across the Pacific Ocean and disappearance. She found all the books she could on her, and spent many hours surfing the internet for any information.

  • Tilly and her family moved to a new city. Her mother said they will be going to a new school, and it will be harder than her old one, but "She should make lots of friends!" Her mother promised.
  • Tilly wrote and read, and read and wrote. She loved learning about something she could pick. While she wrote, the words filled up the pages easily.

  • Tilly was so excited! The other students heard and they congratulated her. Tilly beamed with pride, she didn't feel so small anymore.

  • Tilly told her mother about the good grade she got, her mother was very happy for her. Tilly said, "I can fit in with the other kids now!" Tilly's mother said, "You don't have to try to be perfect to have friends Tilly. Your friends are the people who congratulate you when they know that you worked hard. Sounds like you've already got friends."
