- You promised you'd never sell me Mr. Shelby, you're separating me from my family!
- Despite always telling his slaves he would never sell them, Mr. Shelby in a financial crunch was obligated to sell Uncle Tom to Haley, who promised he will sell Tom to kind owners. Tom, however was heartbroken that he had to leave his family behind. This marks the start of Tom's tragic journey.

- Come on Harry we can't let Mr. Shelby find us!
- Upon hearing the news, that Mr. Shelby was planning on also selling her son Harry, Eliza (one of the other slaves on the Shelby plantation) made a brave escape with her son, showcasing her motherly love and courage.

- I'm not freeing him, slaves don't deserve to be freed!
- Please let Uncle Tom free, it was our daughter's dying wish!
- Uncle Tom's kind new owner, Augustine St. Clair tragically dies just before he can free Uncle Tom like he wanted to. After his death, his wife with an unjust hatred for African Americans, went against her late husband's wishes and sold Uncle Tom.
