  • Sir Mark introduced to his students their lesson for today's discussion.
  • Today's discussion will be about the Geologic Time Scale. Do you have any idea about our lesson for today?
  • No sir. It's our first time to hear that term.
  • Sir Mark agreed with his students and started his discussion about Geologic Time Scale.
  • Geologic time scale is divided into time intervals since each time intervals composed of various important events in the Earth's history.
  • Geologic Time Scale is an illustration of time intervals that shows the History of our planet, Earth, and to determine significant events in the history of our planet. It is divided into eons, eras, period, and epoch
  • Why it is divided into different time intervals?
  • Let's talk first about the Eons. Eons is the biggest time interval in the time scale and are thousands of millions of years in duration. Eons is divided into Precambrian (Hadean, Archean, and Proterozoic) and Phanerozoic. In the Precambrian eon, the important events are formation of Earth's crust, early bacteria and algae (stromatolites), oldest known rocks, simple and complex multicelled organisms, and many more.
  • The Phanerozoic eon is still occurring as of this moment or it doesn't ended yet. It started when the Precambrian eon ended 500 million years ago.
  • What about the Phanerozoic eon? What are the important events happened in that particular eon?
