  • Use of light therapy dates back all the way to 3000 years ago in India. Today, light therapy is used in many hospitals, and helps patients who have skin conditions or sleep conditions. Light therapy ranges in many different forms, but some common practices in hospitals are with the use of ultraviolet lights on the exposed skin. UV lights have a wavelength of between 100-400 nanometers, and a frequency of 7.5 x 10^14, and 3 x 10 ^ 16.

  • The inventor of light therapy is Niels Ryberg Finsen, who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1903. Going back to the light therapy, special cells in our eyes are sensitive to blue light, with a wavelength of about 460 to 480 nm. The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), adjusts the production of hormones, leading to a better sleep schedule. Light exposure also affects the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly serotonin and dopamine, which play key roles in mood regulation.
