  • One major theme of "Monsters Are Due on Maple Street"by Rod Serling is that Violence doesn't solve problems. One example that supports this theme is when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn. This shows that when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn it didn't solve any problems because Charlie shot a neighbor but Charlie thought that Pete Van Horn was the monster then the whole neighborhood when against Charlie.Another example that supports this theme is when Charlie gets tackled and rock get thrown at him which smashes the window and the broken parts on the window fly past him and some of the pieces cut him because he was so quick to kill a neighbor so the whole neighborhood suspects Charlie is the monster also when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn Charlie's house lights automatically went on but the whole neighborhood's house lights where off because the power was off so the whole neighborhood suspected Charlie was the monster but in reality the aliens framed him which again solves no problems. The last example that supports this theme is when Charlie blamed Tommy that he was the monster then everyone went crazy pointing fingers and blamming eachother.Charlie blamed tommmy so the neighbors would stop trying to hurt him. When they keep blaming each other someone punches Steve then someone fires a rifle and someone grabs the hammer from Pete Van horns body therefore not solving any problems just creating violence and chaos. In conclusion the main theme of the monsters are due on maple street is violence dosnet solve problems.
