Storyboard Text

  • Hey! It's me, Zeke and I am here to show you my trigonometry comic strip!
  • 37 degrees
  • The diagonal distance of a board is used to determine its size. Trigonometry can be used to determine their width.
  • 15 feet
  • The diagonal is 15 feet long. The angle given is 37 degrees. Therefore to find the width, we do cosine times 15 to find the width is approximately 12.0 feet long!
  • ?
  • If you didn't know, I hate trains! But i want to find the height of this locomotive using its shadow.
  • The angle of elevation is 52 degrees, the shadow (adjacent side) is 23 feet and he wants to know the height (opposite side)To do so, he takes tan(52) and multiples it by 23. He finds out the locomotive is 29.4 feet tall!
  • 52 degrees
  • 23 feet

  • My house has been painted. When I lean my ladder against the wall, I had to work out a safe angle for it to connect with the floor.
  • A safe ladder is angled at 75 degrees with the ground. Is Mr. Becker's ladder in good condition?
  • ??
  • 2 feet
  • 8 feet
  • To find angle measures, we must use inverse trig. We utilize tangent because we have opposite (7 feet) and adjacent (3 feet) sides. So tan^-1 (7/3) = 66 degrees
