- It may be said that God works in mysterious ways and that a cannon shot completely transformed his life. This goes directly to the Ignatian value of finding God in all things . In this instance he found God in defeat and serious injury. It also highlights the jesuit value of reflection whilst he was recuperating.

- This is another example of the Jesuit values of finding God in all things. Ignatius travelled and spoke with all types of people and allowed him a long period of reflection. He left the comfort and wealth of his family home and developed a relationship with God.

- The idea of living with God and making him the focus of our daily lives was an important principle and value that the Jesuits carried forward. They lived amongst the people and lived by the teaching of being men for others as we are all God's creation.
