- Mr Goldsmith, take this piece of gold and make it into a crown for me!!
- Right away your Highness!!
- Yes your honor I would never try to steal from you!! I would never do such a thing!
- A few days later...
- Here is your crown your Highness, majestic as you are your Honor
- Hm thank you but there is something wrong here but I cant quite put my finger on it. are you sure you used all the gold I gave you for this?
- Alright your honor I will try my best to think of something
- How are you Archimedes, you see I'm quite suspicious about the crown that the goldsmith has fabricated for me, it seems as if he has replaced some of the gold with something else
- Could you try to find out if he did indeed cheat but without taking the crown apart?
- The king wanted a new made crown so he invited the Goldsmith to his castle and gave him a piece of gold to make him a brand new crown.
- Aha!!
- A few days later the Goldsmith came back with the king's finished crown but he felt like something wasn't right, maybe it could be that the goldsmith switched some of the gold with something else and put it in the crown and took the remaining gold instead.
- EUREKA!!! EUREKA!! I FOUND IT!!!
- The king thought that something wasn't right so he called Archimedes to try to figure out what was going on but the catch was that he couldn't take the crown apart at all.
- I am so shocked and disappointed by you! how could you do this!!
- I'm genuinely so extremely sorry your highness I am begging you please don't punish me !!
- Archimedes went back home and started thinking. He decided to take a bath and when he stepped in the bathtub he then noticed that the water level rose and the water splashed out of the bathtub. He realized he had finally sound a solution
- Archimedes was so excited that he ran out of the bath and house naked and screamed "Eureka eureka i have found it"
- Archimedes rushed to the castle and explained everything to the king, the goldsmith tried to deny everything but the truth was displayed in front of them, he was later arested and thats how density was said to be invented.
- The crown's density is lower which shows that it is made of something else because it floated in the bathtub whereas the gold piece was more dense and sunk
