- Today I would like to assign the task of looking up and writing a report on Structuralism vs Functionalism.

- I have looked at every book in here and I just don't see the information I need.
- Well my understanding from what I checked out, in the APA Dictionary of Psychology, is that Functionalism is a response to Structuralism. It focuses on the causes and consequences of human behavior; the union of the physiological with the psychological; the need for objective testing of theories; and the applications of psychological knowledge to the solution of practical problems, the evolutionary continuity between animals and humans, and the improvement of human life.
- So if Functionalism is the response then what exactly is Structuralism really?

- The APA dictionary says structuralism defined psychology as the study of mental experience and sought to investigate the structure of such experience through a systematic program of experiments based on trained introspection.
- So Structuralism focuses on introspective structure of thought and Functionalism focuses on why things are the way they are!
- With this information this assignment should be easy!
