- The Monsters are due on maple street theme: People can be their own monsters
- In the story The Monsters are due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, the main theme is people can be their own monsters. One reason showing how people can be their own monsters is when Les Goodmans car started up on its own on page 673. This shows this theme because everyone was yelling, jumping to conclusions, and blaming him for something he did not do. Another way of showing how people can be their own monsters is page 679 when charlie shoots Pete van Horn. The reason this relates is how the people thought about why charlie shot him. The people thought that charlie killed Pete so fast is because they thought he was the monster but really Charlie was just scared and did not know who it was. Lastly, people can be their own monsters because page 683 shows the people of maple street when they all started fighting. This relates to the theme because it shows humans killing other humans over something they did not do. In conclusion, the theme of the monsters are due on maple street is that people can be their own monsters.
