- I'm starting to second guess coming here
- I'm deathly ill, I believe it's a family curse.
- Our unnamed speaker visits his ill friend, after he gets a letter saying that his friend is the last in his bloodline. The speaker becomes more anxious as he gets closer to the house.
- Sit down and let me read you one of your favorite books.
- His friend, Usher, explained that his illness was a curse upon his family. Usher could only wear certain clothes, and even elegant foods tasted horrible to him. He was dying, and he knew it. The speaker caught a short glimpse of a woman passing through the house.
- *Shriek*
- Lady Madeline, Usher's sister, had died due to an illness that evenUsher's doctors could not determine. The speaker and Usher buried her within a vault in the house, because Usher's superstitions restrainedhim from burying her in the family cemetery.
- Usher and the speaker were both having trouble sleeping, and it was a stormy night outside. The speaker sat Usher down and read to him, as to distract him from everything happening outside. Many events that happened in the book resembled a sound being heard in the mansion, much like the one in the book. This greatly unnerved both Usher and the speaker.
- Suddenly, a door swung open to reveal Lady Madeline. She was screaming, and as she fell, pinned her brother to the ground, killing both of them.
- The speaker runs away from the mansion, and finds in a reflection that the mansion is in ruins.
