Democritus wondered what would happen if you cut an object, such as a piece of cheese into smaller and smaller pieces. He thought that soon enough there would be a point in which the cheese could not be cut into smaller pieces.
One day this cheese will be uncuttable if I continue cutting...
Democritus came to the conclusion that atoms were uniform, solid, and indestructible. he stated that they moved in infinite numbers through empty space until stopped and that the size of the atoms determined the type of matter. He called these pieces atomos, which means “uncuttable” in Greek.
These are uncuttable, so Atomos is what it shall be called
Good afternoon everyone, my name is Democritus and I am a Greek philosopher. After careful experimentation, I have came up with a revolutionary theory suggesting that all matter is formed of different types of tiny uncuttable particles and that the properties of these particles also determined the properties of matter. I shall name this Atomos !
