  • Quartering Act
  • I can stay at your inn for free because of the Quartering Act!!!!
  • Sir, I am very poor and my inn needs a lot of maintenance! I cannot afford to house you!

  • Sugar Act
  • I need my sugar!!!!!!
  • The Quartering Act required the colonies to house British soldiers in the barracks provided by the colonies. If there was not enough space for them, they were allowed to stay in local inns and other local shelters. The colonists did not like the idea of the British soldiers coming into their homes.
  • Stamp Act
  • You have to pay your taxes for mail. You sent 50 letters yesterday.
  • The Writs of Assistance was like a general search warrant. This power was often abused and upsetted the colonists.
  • Declaratory Act
  • The Sugar Act taxed molasses from foreign countries. The British wanted the people to have control over trade. The colonists were very upset about this because they were charged more for sugar.
  • Townshend Acts
  • TOO BAD!
  • The Stamp Act taxed stamps. It does not seem like a big deal for the wealthy, however the poor have been affected a lot. The people protested because not everyone could afford the taxes.
  • I have no money.
  • The Declaratory Act stated that Parliament could make laws binding the American colonies no matter what. This angered the colonists because they felt like the British were taking control of their lives.
  • The Townshend Acts taxed goods imported to the colonies. The colonists had no representation in the Parliament and saw this as an abuse of power.
  • I can't afford to pay taxes any more!
