Banquo tells Macbeth that he is going riding with Fleance and will be back before the state dinner. Macbeth calls for two murderers who will ambush Banquo and Fleance and kill them.
Act 3 Scene 5
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth do not feel like they are able to enjoy their royalty because of all the bad things they have done. Lady Macbeth tries to cheer Macbeth up. Macbeth's corruption continues and he keeps Banquo's murder a secret from his wife.
Act 3 Scene 6
The two murderers find that Macbeth has sent a third murderer to help them ambush Banquo and Fleance. Banquo is killed and Fleance escapes.
The murderers return to the castle and tell Macbeth what has happened. Macbeth returns to the state dinner to find that there are no seats left. Banquo's ghost has occupied the last seat and only Macbeth can see that. Macbeth becomes outraged at the ghost and eventually Lady Macbeth tells their guests to leave.
Hecate is angry with the three witches for meddling in to Macbeth's life. She decides that they have to destroy Macbeth's life by making him think he is invincible.
Lennox and a lord talk about the past events. They conclude that Fleance killed Banquo, Duncan's son killed Duncan and that Macbeth isn't a good man. They also reveal that Mcduff and Malcolm have gone to England and are raising an army to invade Scotland.
