  • We are doing this for Nixon!
  • Why are you in here!?
  • Are they tapes? Whats on them?
  • We need to look at what's on these tapes! Take it to the Supreme Court!
  • The executive and judicial branch should not overlap! There needs to be branch separation. This is not constitutional!
  • SupremeCourt
  • Five men break into the Democratic National Headquarters to try to spy on the office to aid Nixon in creating a successful reelection campaign.
  • Executive privilege cannot support this. The tapes need to be released.
  • Investigators looked into the case further, and looked around Nixon's office, and found a tape recorder with hundreds of hours of Nixon's conversations with evidence of conspiracy and other crimes. This is brought to the Supreme Court.
  • The final vote came back as 8-0, Executive privilege cannot keep anybody from denying access to information. No matter the position. Nixon will need to hand over the tapes and be held accountable from any crimes committed.
  • Nixon and his lawyers argued separation of powers, and that the different branches of government should not be overlapping with each other, actively avoiding the original claims against him.
  • Executive privilege laws will not be the same in the future. They are not able to cover everything. Government positions still need to be held accountable.
  • Cheif Justice Burger gave his opinion in court and said that executive privilege was not relevant in the case. The tapes were also reviewed and deemed that there was evidence of conspiracy and crimes on them.
  • The final decision voted on by the justices was 8-0, meaning that Nixon needed to give the tapes over to prosecutors. Executive power could not reasonably cover this case.
  • Executive power and other regulations regarding campaigning and other political activities were changed for future presidents. Nixon resigned from presidency soon after the final court decision was made.
