  • As part of our review, each one of us must discuss the evolution of management. There are 5 theories, Scientific, Administrative.Behavioral, Management Science and Organizational Envitronment Theory. Let's start!
  • COOL! Scientific management is a theory of management thatanalyzes and synthesizes workflows. Its main objective is improving economicefficiency, especially labor productivity. It was one of the earliest attemptsto apply science to the engineering of processes to management. During the1940s and 1950s, scientific management evolved into operations management, operations research, and management cybernetics. In the 1980s, total qualitymanagement became widely popular, and in the 1990s, “re-engineering” becameincreasingly popular.
  • My turn! Administrative management theory attempts to find a rationalway to design an organization as a whole. The theory generally calls for aformalized administrative structure, a clear division of labor, and delegationof power and authority to administrators relevant to their areas of responsibilities. The Administrative Theory of Management was firstgeneralized by Henri Fayol (1841-1925) with his work and publications, Fayol's14 Principles of Management (1888) and Administration Industrielle et Generale(1916). Fayol was a French Mining Engineer who recorded his industry methods.
  • Next is the behavioral management theory, it relies on the notion that managers will better understand the human aspect to workers and treat employeesas important assets to achieve goals. Management taking a special interest inworkers makes them feel like part of a special group. In 1924, Australian sociologist Elton Mayo, who laterbecame an industrial research professor at Harvard, began a series of studiesthat demonstrated that employee motivation is heavily influenced by social andsituational factors.
  • Second to the last thoery. As reported in Cleverism, management science is primarilyconcerned with exploring how a business can manage itself with the aim tomaximize productivity. Through adopting a system that allows assimilation ofscientific thought, the managers and owners solve or prevent the range ofproblems and issues arising from managerial weaknesses, which can be primaryreasons small firms are viewed as marginal or unprofitable businesses. The origins of management science can be traced to operations research, which became influential during World War IIwhen the Allied forces recruited scientists of various disciplines to assistwith military operations.
  • Finally, the organization envirnoment theoryThe set of forces and conditions that operate beyond an organization's boundaries but affect a manager's ability to acquire and utilize resources. The study of the external environment and its impact on anorganization has become a central issue in management thought.Management theory originated with scientific andbureaucratic management that used measurement, procedures androutines as the basis for operations. We're done!
