- Guy Montag is just another man in the world who goes on with his everyday life without questioning anything at all. This can be seen in the quote, "It was a pleasure to burn" (Bradbury 1), where Montag follows what he is told and does his job without ever questioning it. He even goes as far as to say it pleases him to burn which portrays him as a heartless and unfeeling human.

The fumes of kerosene bloomed up about her. Montag felt the hidden book pound like a heart against his chest."(Bradbury 37), the reader can infer that Montag has begun his transformation. He witnesses a woman burn and die with her books. After reading the text the reader can also tell that Montag has a hidden book, which is considered illegal.
- Montag is interested in converting his life so he decides to meet with a retired English professor named Faber. In the quotation, Montag says "Nobody listens any more. I can't talk to the walls because they're yelling at me. I can't talk to my wife; she listens to the walls. I just want someone to hear what I have to say. And maybe if I talk long enough, it'll make sense. And I want you to teach me to understand what I read."(Bradbury 78). Montag is clearly frustrated about his life and wants to learn more so he can make sense of his life. He is very intrigued as to what the books knowledge can offer him.
